Remember Star Trek the TV series? Tony's blog reminds me of one episode in particular. Captain Kirk and his crew discovered an abandoned space ship on a distant planet. When they investigate, they found the inhabitants of that ship had preserved their brains in some kind of special container because their bodies were dying. There were two brains who had a special connection; they had been husband and wife. Now, these brains were hundreds of years old. When the two brains communicated with each other you could tell they were still in love.....although they had not touched each other in hundreds of years.

Tony is correct. Love is an emotion. Sex is physical. One can make their bodies perform certain acts, but you cannot make yourself feel a certain emotion. You feel an emotion or your don't.

It is unfair, misleading and discriminatory when people try to define sexual orientation solely as a sexual act.

Believe me, children know their sexual orientation before puberty. It's how they FEEL. Puberty just tends to underscore that feeling!!

For me, the key for justice around the raid at The Rainbow Lounge lies in having an openly gay man, Joel Burns, sitting on the City Council of Ft. Worth. It is very difficult to discriminate against a group of people when someone from that group is your colleague! That presence encourages doing the "right thing". As you know, Dallas City Council does not have an openly GLBT person sitting on their council. We miss you Ed Oakley!!

Yes, a huge "thank you" to those mentioned in the article.

I want to encourage us all to remember to help those giving to the GLBT community understand they should support BOTH AIDS assistance and the GLBT community. It is evident the two entities are stil lumped together in so many minds. AIDS does not equal GLBT.

Again, thank you to everyone for hard work and to the Spirit for bringing us better opportunities to live the wonderfully rich lives we live.

Best,
Reece
