You’ve Been Read
I really try to keep this blog all about business, GLBT and Chamber issues. What else is there, right? Last month I skillfully discussed ‘what I did on my summer vacation’ in Lessons from Puerto Vallarta and I found a way to make it about the Chamber and GLBT business. But today I’m not even going to try to make this anything other than what it is; a shameless plug.
How many of us wish we had a secret identity? Speaking for all gay men everywhere, we did (or do). Not the ‘I’m straight at work and gay at night’ kind of secret identity. More like the mild-mannered college student by day and Batman’s Robin by night. It isn’t just me is it? People just like this (without the tights and cape) are walking among us every day. I couldn’t be happier.
As a point of reference, I lived with my lesbian sister for many years, which probably explains a lot about me. I have a deep appreciation for her perspectives as a woman and a lesbian I still don’t have a great understanding of how she thinks. I don’t care if you’re straight or gay, men just don’t think like women. I’m not saying it’s right or wrong, it just is. (Candy Marcum, back me up here.) So I was thrilled, no ecstatic when I was introduced to the writings of Carsen Taite.
What does this have to do with men in tights? Let’s just say that Carsen is Catwoman to [removed for security]’s Selina Kyle. And, can I write this in a business blog? The bitch can write! And apparently she can read too. Tonight, Thursday, August 20, 2009, Carsen will appear at the Borders Bookstore on McKinney Avenue in Dallas where she will read and sign copies of her latest book, “It Should be a Crime”. If you attend you’ll learn of her secret identity!
I first met “Carsen” at the Chamber mixer in May, 2005 where prospective Board Members were to be introduced. We had both been nominated to serve on the Chamber’s first board. We sort-of ran into each other at the end of the bar and it was like we knew each other for years, we just clicked. If she were a few years older and we were both straight and it was the 1990s we’d probably be happily divorced today. Sometime shortly thereafter she told me that she always wanted to write a romance novel, a lesbian romance novel. And she did! Last year, her very first book was picked up by her first choice in publishers. Can you believe it? I can, she’s just that good. And so was the book. “TrueLesbianLove.com” Was/is a smash. It has become one of Bold Strokes Books’ top selling ebooks.
While we all enjoy Carsen’s second book “It Should be a Crime” (did I mention the reading and book signing tonight?) she’s hard at work on book #3 “Do Not Disturb”.
Did I mention that by day Carsen is one of Dallas’ best criminal defense lawyers, she does volunteer work, she’s married to a lovely woman and they share their home with a menagerie of dogs, cats and bird (just one bird). I get tired just thinking about it!
